Who was Levi Yitzchak Schneerson
Levi Yitzchak Schneerson (1878-1944) was a rabbi and the father of the seventh Lubavitcher rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson. From 1909 to 1939 he served as chief rabbi of Yekaterinoslav. 1
Arrest and exile
In March 1939 he was arrested and then exiled to Chilii, a settlement in Kazakhstan. After his release he lived in Alma-Ata. 1
Memory
He died on 9 August 1944 in Alma-Ata and is buried in the city's Jewish cemetery. He was rehabilitated in 1989. 1
